Probably one of the best investments I’ve ever made is purchasing a portable infrared sauna. Not only does it provide me with great stress relief after a long day of work, it is also a good means for healthy skin and detoxification. In many cultures around the world, the sauna has been considered a vital part to one’s daily life for physical, mental and spiritual rejuvenation.
Throughout history the sauna has gone under many stages of evolution, mainly due to cultural influence and emerging technology. There are wet and dry versions of the sauna.
Some of the oldest recorded saunas were pits dug into the earth where rocks were heated to high temperatures. A basic covering was used over the heated rocks to capture the heat and induce sweating. Water could even be thrown on the hot stones to produce steam.
Here is a brief list of the progression of sauna types:
- The Smoke Sauna is one of the original saunas and is basically described in the preceding paragraph. This type of sauna has also been fitted with a chimney fixture to eliminate the irritating effects of collecting smoke.
- A continuous fire stove is a more recent version of the above and requires continued manual support to fuel the fire. The latest of this type are the similar electrically heated saunas which are often found in gyms or homes. One of the negative part of the traditional saunas is that the air temperatures can average around 80 degrees celcius, which can make extended sessions uncomfortable or a session difficult to maintain for the recommended time.
- Infrared saunas use a technology that
has been around since the 1950s where a special bulb produces rays similar to those of the sun without the UV radiation. The bulb heaters don’t increase the temperature of the air to extreme temperatures but penetrate the skin to promote perspiration. I generally break into a good continuous sweat when the temperature reaches about 60 degrees celcius, almost half that of the conventional saunas. Infrared technology saunas have been researched and purport to provide the same health benefits of traditional saunas along with the safety. Infrared sauna heaters also can have a life to 10,000 hours.
Here are just a few of the proposed benefits of regular infrared sauna use:
- Pain Relief for muscles and joints
- Increased Detoxification
- Aids in Weight Loss
- Supports Cardiovascular Health
- Promotes Healthy Skin Elasticity and Tone
- Tissue and Muscle Flexibility
- Supports Immune Function and Proposed Aid in Cancer Therapy
- Does not dry up mucous membranes as the conventional counterparts do
There are a few differences between traditional saunas and the infrared sauna.
The biggest reasons I prefer portable and infrared is for the overall health reasons, lightweight portability and affordability. Visit Saunazone South Africa now http://www.saunazone.co.za or call 0860448367 or 0845557227

Infrared Sauana vs Finnish Sauna:
Most people have experienced a rock sauna or come across one at some point but the new Far Infrared saunas are gaining popularity. Which is better you might ask? It really depends on who you ask since we found many comparisons online but no true winner overall. It will probably cost a little more to run a Far Infrared sauna versus a rock sauna. In terms of which does a better job of getting those nasty toxins out of your body through sweat, it’s a toss up. There is no strong evidence that either work better but some people prefer one over the other. Many users say they prefer the traditional feel of a steam and rock sauna but others say the heat (temperature) is overbearing in a rock sauna. A Far Infrared sauna will reach temps around 110-130 degrees F while a rock sauna can get up to 140-190 degrees F. The heater in a rock sauna will take about 1/2 hour to heat up while the heaters in a Far Infrared warm-up in 20-30 minutes time. Research both types online and see which features or benefits most interest you.

Sauna (a finnish word) means a room in which water is splashed on the hot rocks to produce steam (With evolving technology, sauna setup also has witnessed tremendous changes. Many new techniques are being developed and utilized to build new saunas; and to control the temperature inside). This steam is then used for its medical benefits in the form of Sauna bath. The temperature at which sauna bath should be taken is controlled by the participants.
Sauna bath opens the pores on skin and helps body to remove toxins and other impurities from within the body and blood. Sauna’s effect on human body shows unpredictable heart condition as the heart beats/pulse rate increases to almost double, causing blood circulation in the body increase towards the skin. Regular sauna bath can also help mental and physical relaxation and release tension. People with sleep disorders such as insomnia and improper sleep condition can be benefited through sauna as it is very effective in inducing a good long relaxing sleep.
The heat generated during sauna bath helps our body in improving our immune system by increasing our body heat which simulates the fever condition. We also know about the medical properties of steam, which proves to be of great help in treating problems like cold (sinusitis), bronchitis, laryngitis etc.
15-20 minutes of sauna is almost equivalent to 1-2 hours of brisk walk or 1 hour of exercise. However, this effect can vary from person to person based on their physical condition.
For many people, sauna does not offer significant health benefits; in that case sauna can serve a purpose of leisure for them and not more than just a daily relaxation process and a way to preserve the glow on their face.
